An excellent season ended with disappointment at Nationwide where defeat resulted in us losing out on promotion to the 1st division,
a long held ambition of the club. With 11 wins and 5 defeats (2 cancelled) we finished in 3rd position, an admirable achievement and one that should hold us in good stead for next season as we aim for the holy grail.
Outstanding contributions with the bat came from Simon Bailey with 612 runs for the season, averaging just over 43 and Steve Rendell with 505 runs,
averaging just over 36. Offering excellent support in the middle order was Jon Wiltshire with 302 runs at an average of just over 30. Dave Light and
Darren Perrin also scored useful runs and both averaged over 22.
On the bowling front the majority of the work was done by Richard Jory, Matthew Hemmings and Dean Wallington, the latter taking an impressive
29 wickets for the season at under 14 runs per wicket. Jory bowled with his usual accuracy to finish with 21 wickets at under 21 runs per wicket
and Hemmings in only his second season in this division took a very respectable 19 wickets at just over 20 runs per wicket.
At the recent AGM Steve Rendell was re-elected as 1st XI captain for 2006 and Paul Hunt appointed as the new 2nd XI skipper.
Extensive remedial work has been carried out on the cricket square by new contractors with an aim to improve consistency of bounce.
Plans are also in hand to try and obtain a motorised roller for the pitch and outfield.
Agreement has been reached with the Rugby section to refurbish the changing/shower areas which will be a welcome improvement.
With a view to the future our main plan is to re-form our youth section and develop young players. To this end both Dean Wallington and
John Wiltshire, Snr have agreed to get this project underway.
Indoor cricket nets will be arranged for the start of next season as we to look to build a promotion-winning side with the
introduction of 1 or 2 new players. We are always looking for new players for both XI’s and we especially need additional assistance with
the formation of the youth set-up and anybody interested in helping will be most welcome. For further details please
